Sound and heat insulation:
Thermosetting (Surodur) and thermoplastic (Surobond) bound non-wovens are used for sound absorption and thermal insulation in passenger cars, trucks and household appliances.
Our thermoplastic bound, low-density nonwoven fabrics equipped with AbSorFace or AbSorFace Ultra have very good sound and thermal insulation properties (Suroloft & Suroloft Ultra). High grade of compressibility is notworthy, so it can adjust itself to narrow places. As a result, it is possible to avoid free cuts and thus acoustic leakages in many cases.
Good to very good acoustical absorption are main function of our thermoplastic bound non-wovens of medium density (Surobond & Surobond PLUS). Very good heat resistance (> 130 °C) is added to our thermoset-bound non-wovens (Surodur, Surodur E & Surodur EP).
Following figure shows a component for sound absorption in the boot of a passenger car (Surobond Plus):
Self Supporting parts with acoustical absorption:
Parts which are thermosetting bound with phenolic resin (Surodur & Surodur E) or epoxy resin* (Surodur EP) are used both as self-supporting trim parts and as sound-absorbing components. Particular highlights are their high thermal stability, structural strength and the possibility of combining structurally solid sections with sound-absorbing sections in one component. Following figure shows a footwell covering with integrated air duct, outflow openings and integrated sound-absorbing sections (Surodur E):
*Surodur EP: The epoxy resin used is a primary product of the chemical industry and does not consist out of reprocessed powder paint residues.
